KARACHI: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) on Friday urged the government to consider the purchase of electricity from rental power producers (RPPs) to overcome the shortfall, which is hampering industrial activities in the country, a statement said.
Muhammad Adrees, president of the FPCCI, said the government should take the advantage of the low oil prices at the international market and purchase electricity from RPPs on short-term basis.
“There are several RPPs, which can provide power at the prices of around Rs11-12 per unit,” he said.
He also said Pakistan has the potential to meet its energy needs through setting up hydel and coal plants in the country.
