FDA a white elephant, says GB chairman

FAISALABAD: Faisalabad Development Authority Governing Body chairman MPA Sheikh Ijaz Ahmad has said that the FDA is indeed a white elephant and no development could be accomplished by it during the last decade.
He was addressing a press conference here on Wednesday. He admitted that the FDA had badly failed to provide basic amenities in the FDA City, which was constructed a decade before. He said that he had already issued warning to the FDA officers to mend their ways and eliminate corruption. Sheikh Ijaz Ahmad said that FDA City was a mega project, which had been isolated by the FDA authorities, but now the people would see a lot of improvement. He said that 36,000 applications for allotment of plots in the FDA City were received and no improvement could be made after the construction of roads due to lack of interest of the FDA officials.
Sheikh Ijaz said that the FDA would construct plazas in Millat Town, Madina Town and other places, while the CDG would also be approached to acquire some suitable site on Canal Road to construct two-bed apartments. He said that the FDA would clear encroachments from all the eight main bazaars of the city to make them vehicle-free bazaars. He said that next meeting of the body would be held on January 20. “Under the FDA master plan, four important roads including Jaranwala Road, Chak Jhumra Road, Satiana and Sumundari Road, will be linked to the city besides an expressway,” he maintained. MPAs Ilyas Ansari and Najma Afzal and the FDA governing body members were also present.
