Pakistan make winning start in Asian Junior Squash Team C’ship
KARACHI: Pakistan won both of their pool matches on the opening day of 18th Asian Junior Squash Team Championships in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
In the first match, fourth seed Pakistan defeated eighth seed Japan 3-0. Mansoor Zaman beat Naoki Sone 11-5, 11-3, 11-3, Mehran Javed defeated Kota Matsumoto 11-7, 11-3, 11-5, while Abbas Zeb overpowered Odan Rintaro 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8.
In the second match, Pakistan beat 12th seed Macau China 3-0. Mansoor defeated Carlos Chan De Oliveira 11-0, 11-1, 11-2, Mehran thrashed Manuel Chan De Oliveira 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 and Abbas smashed Ka Chon Wu 11-0, 11-2, 11-2.
Pakistan will now play against top seed India and 9th seed Korea on Thursday (today), they will then face Iran on Friday.
The event has attracted 12 countries and regions with almost a hundred promising junior athletes competing for the Asian Junior men’s and women’s team titles.
Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, India, Japan, Korea, Macau China, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka sent both their boys’ and girls’ teams, while Iran, Jordan and Pakistan sent their boys’ teams for the event. Pakistan are the defending champions of this event.
