MULTAN: Lawyers have rejected the military courts and termed them against the spirit of the constitution.
Talking to The News here on Monday, senior lawyer Nafees Ansari said that the establishment of military courts was not a solution to the growing militancy. The formation of military courts was against the fundamental rights, he said, adding that there was no room for military courts in the constitution.
He said: “Stern action is needed against the militants, who are brainwashed into believing that a Jehad is a way to heaven.” He asked the government to root out the mindset that was fueling hatred in the youth. The factories producing suicide bombers and gun-toting youths must be shutdown, he added. Punjab Bar Council member Dawood Ahmad opposed the military courts. He said that the current situation needed a national policy and consensus on terrorism. Malik Azam and other lawyers were also present.
