An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday awarded 33 years' imprisonment to a terrorist involved several cases of police encounter, attempting murder, possession of explosive material and illegal arms.
The court, headed by Farman Ali Kansaro, announced 10 years' imprisonment for attempting murder, two years for police encounter, seven years for possession of illegal arms and 14 years for possession of explosive material. A fine of Rs 130,000 was also imposed on Faisal Shah alias SB alias Jhoota alias Zardari.
In case of default of the fine amount, the convict would have to face an additional imprisonment of 15 months' imprisonment.
The cases against Faisal were lodged at the Shershah police station.
Extortion suspect cleared
The same court acquitted Muhammad Awais Raza Qadiri from extortion charges.
Muhammad Iqbal had registered a case at the Rissala police station accusing Qadri of demanding Rs 25,000 as extortion money from him and on payment of the said amount demanding more from Iqbal. The accused was arrested on March 21, 2014, but no allegation could be proved against the accused. The court while giving benefit of doubt to Qadri announced his acquittal.
Extortionist jailed
Furthermore, another ATC, headed by Bashir Ahmed Khoso, awarded seven years' imprisonment to an extortionist after the prosecution proved the charges against the accused.
Raja Rahseed had demanded rupees one million as extortion money from a trader, Shaikh Kamran Saleem, and had threatened to kill him on non-compliance of the demand.
Saleem had lodged a case against the accused (Raja Rasheed) under FIR No 481/2013 under Sections 380/386/506-B/34 of Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of Anti-terrorism Act, 1997 at the Korangi Industrial Area police station and the police arrested Raja Rasheed on July 21, 2013.
Two co-accused, namely Haji Naik Muhammad alias Naiku and Shera were declared to be pro-claimed offenders.
The court while announcing seven years' imprisonment also imposed a fine of Rs50,000 on the convict and said in case of default of payment of the fine amount, the convict would have to face another term of four months imprisonment.
A man arrested by Rangers from West Zone was produced before the judge of an anti-terrorism court which endorsed his detention for a period of 90 days.
The Rangers’ law officer informed the court that Samiullah was wanted in various cases of terrorism and he should be detained for 90 days for interrogation under the Section 11-EEEE of the Pakistan Protection Act.
Remanded
Four activists of a banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were remanded for 14 days on a physical remand.
According to the investigation officer, Ali Haider, Rasheed Iqbal, Anwar Ali and Sultan Ali were arrested on January 9 from the Federal B area after the police had recovered explosive material, three mobile phones and other illegal weapons from their possession.
A case against the four accused was registered at the Gulberg police station.
