Sattar says census should be conducted transparently;
quota system should be abolished
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan announced on Monday that it would stage a rally at Nishtar Park on December 30, claiming that it would be the party’s largest public gathering ever there.
Dr Farooq Sattar, the convener of the MQM-P, told reporters at the party’s PIB Colony office that the rally would beat all previous records in terms of participation and be a milestone in the country’s political history.
Recalling the memories of August, 1986 when the then Mohajir Qaumi Movement led by Altaf Hussain had held a massive rally, Sattar said rumours and speculations would come to an end when people would express their full support to the MQM-P by participating in the rally in huge numbers.
Sattar said at the rally, a kite festival and cultural programmes would also be organised. “The MQM-P is the only political party that represents the people of Karachi,” he maintained.
“The MQM-P is working within the country in its Pakistan’s sphere and had clearly conveyed a message on August 23 by standing with Pakistan. It will always work within the country’s frame work and for the country,” he pledged.
Census
Sattar said a census should be conducted, but on the basis of biasness.
“A transparent census should be conducted and citizens should be given their due rights.
The quota system should be abolished immediately, he added.
Sattar said the MQM-P was the only political party which represented the urban population of the province and the 2018 would prove that.
He criticised media for their creating misperceptions. “We feel that the December 30 rally is need of the hour and negative assumptions should come to end with it.”
He said that no logistical assistance would be provided to the citizens for the rally and they would attend the event out of their own interest and commitment.
“Those living in Karachi, whether they are Urdu speakers or others who were deprived of their rights in the past, if want their issued addressed in the future, then they must unite on one platform at this rally,” he added.
“Both the federal and provincial rulers have always snatched the rights of Karachi.”
Sattar said the MQM-P was the only party that could guarantee the resolution of Karachi problems and abolish the draconian quota system.
