ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice (CJ) Anwar Zaheer Jamali the other day while hearing the suo moto case on miserable conditions in jails and maladministration at police stations praised the performance of the Federal Ombudsman.
Appreciating the report prepared on jail and police station reforms, the CJ remarked that few institutions and persons in the country were working with zeal and commitment and this hearing has been held to recognise the services of the Federal Ombudsman.
It is pertinent to mention that two committees- one on prison reforms and other on reforms at police stations, had been constituted by the Federal Ombudsman M. Salman Faruqui in pursuance of the Supreme Court’s directive and reports on the subjects have been submitted to the Apex Court. The committee on prisons comprised former Law Minister S. M. Zafar and former President Supreme Court Bar Association Ms Asma Jahangir. The committee on Police Stations was headed by Abbas Khan, former Federal Secretary and Inspector of General of Police Punjab and KP.
