GWADAR: A new task force has been set up to protect the Gwadar deep-sea port. The force is equipped with drones and other latest weaponry.
Addressing an international maritime conference on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Gwadar on Tuesday, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah said CPEC will be a game-changer with economic dividends not only for China and Pakistan but also for the entire region and that a strong navy is highly important for the security of the corridor.
The ceremony was held in connection with the commissioning of the special task force -- TF-88.Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was due to attend the conference but his flight from Lahore was delayed due to fog, Zakaullah said, adding that the Pakistan Navy had established the TF-88 for the protection of the Gwadar Port. Speedboats, planes for aerial supervision and drones are part of this force, he pointed out.
Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Zubair Hayat and Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo also attended the conference.
