SIUT Transplant Centre to be inaugurated today

The newly constructed Transplant Centre of the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) will be inaugurated on Wednesday (today), which has been constructed over an area of 250,000 sq ft at an estimated cost of Rs1.5 billion, according to a SIUT spokesperson. 

Built in a period of four years, the 14-story transplant centre is designed to meet the futuristic challenges of the transplant sciences, said the spokesman. 

He said the transplant centre would be one of its kinds in the country and it would cater to the transplant needs of some delicate organs including liver, intestine, pancreas, bone marrow and cornea.

“SIUT is a premier institution of the country which is known for carrying out 5000 successful live related kidney transplants with life time follow up medications of donors and recipients for the past many years.”

The centre is a 100-bed facility with integrated facilities like transplant wards, ICUs, pre-transplant unit, donor ward, out patients clinic, radiology, state of the art modern operation theatre, laboratory and rehabilitation centre where the SIUT can manage all transplant under one roof.

“The establishment of the SIUT Transplant Centre of is an outcome of the generous donation by the Suleman Dawood family. The family funded the project on the behest of SIUT and has already donated generously for setting up an oncology centre and a 100-station dialysis unit,” he said.

“The ultimate goal of the newly constructed Transplant Centre is to enhance the transplant activities in the country and give a new dimension to the overall activities of the SIUT where all treatment is free of charge.

The inaugural ceremony of the Transplant Centre will also be attended by prominent personalities of transplant sciences,” the spokesman added.
