The mere sight of our distinguished parliamentarians greeting the prime minister on his arrival in the National Assembly is a testimony to the fact that this system of governance can be named anything but democracy. All members from the treasury benches were behaving as if the PM was a rock star and they were his ardent fans or that parliament was his court and they were the subjects who wanted to feel the warmth of their excellency by shaking hands with him.
This behaviour clearly reflects the fact that the PM is not accessible to parliamentarians normally. This also shows that most of our parliamentarians treat their party head as a lord and not as a leader. In such an environment how can a common man imagine ever seeing the ruler to voice his problems which is the essence of democracy? Is this democracy?
