SUKKUR: There is information about presence of criminals in Gharhi Taigo and the Katcha areas of Khairpur, and an operation will be launched there soon with the assistance of the Army.

This was stated by the Sindh Inspector-General of Police, A D Khawaja, while talking to the media here on Wednesday after inaugurating the 15 Police Helpline here and in Khairpur.  He said that Sindh Police had been playing its role in maintaining the law and order situation in each and every city of the province tremendously.

He said that target killings, extortion and suicide incidents had been reduced in Karachi. The IGP said that police not only managed to arrest the people behind the suicide bombers involved in Shikarpur and Jacobabad suicide attacks, but they also arrested their facilitators and got the Madrasah which had facilitated them closed.

He said that terrorists entered into Shikarpur and Jacobabad through Balochistan and committed suicide bombings. The police chief said police had no modern equipment or system to stop terrorist incidents or to stop terrorists from entering into Sindh through Balochistan.

He said that accused in the Baldia Town incident, Abdul Rehman, would be taken into custody when he arrived in Karachi.

The IGP said that for the first time in history police recovered a huge stock of weapons from the limits of Nine Zero and said that the recovered weapons had been dumped for use against the State by the terrorists.

He said that nobody wanted to recognize that house. However, he said that despite that the investigation was underway and that it had not been stopped, and investigation against the terrorists would be continued.

He said that Sindh police appointed 12,000 cops without succumbing to any political pressure and purely on merit.  The IGP said that in this regard he sustained all the political pressure but did not compromise over merit.
