Development review

This meeting’s specific focus was, however, on the route leading from the airport to the Ghaggar Phattak.

He said the road leading to Quaidabad from the airport, up to the Steel Mills and further to the Ghaggar Phattak, was the responsibility of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and needed urgent construction, while the construction of Karachi-Thatta Dual Carriageway, being carried out by the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), was underway.

The chief minister was informed by the officials concerned that the proposed scheme had utility lines on both sides of the route, and that besides the construction of the road, water supply and gutter lines would also be replaced.

The chief minister directed additional chief secretary
(development) Mohammad Waseem to approve the scheme in three phases so that its tenders could be issued.

He suggested constructing the initial portion of the road i.e. from the airport to Quaidabad should be constructed by the Karachi Package project-director, while the other two portions should be awarded to a well-reputed construction firm.
