OKARA: Promoting energy efficiency and scaling up renewable energy requires an effective and supportive environment.
This was said by United States Consul General Yuriy Fedkiw and Provincial Minister for Livestock and Dairy Development Asif Saeed Manais while inaugurating a biogas plant at the government Bahadurnagar livestock farm, some 15km from here on Monday. They said that the project was completed with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and a multinational company. They said that the plant would yield significant benefits, including electricity generation for agricultural production, cooking gas and manure production. They said that establishment of biogas units in rural areas was an efficient and effective way of meeting local energy needs by utilising renewable resources.
They said that the vast potential of biogas should be explored further to provide an alternative to 122 million people in the Punjab as it had no reliable source of energy. Dairy and Rural Development Foundation (DRDF) CEO Ahmad Sajjad said that the biogas unit would serve as a model for investors and rural communities to replicate and reduce reliance on firewood or dung cakes for cooking in heating. He said that the DRDF was transforming the dairy sector by promoting breed improvement and dairy farming skill. Beside this, the DRDF was addressing the energy needs of rural communities through biogas plants, he added. MNA Nadeem Abbas Rubera, DCO Sucrat Rana, DPO Faisal Rana, multinational company chairman Syed Yawar Ali and others attended the function. Earlier, the singers and dancers performed to add glamour to the function.
