Election of mayor in Rawalpindi on December 22
Rawalpindi: As the process of elections on special seats of Local completed in November this year, three candidates have geared up their campaign for elections of Mayor of Rawalpindi which would be held on December 22 this year.
The local bodies elections in Rawalpindi city were held in December last year like other parts of the Punjab province and the candidates of PML(N) gained a thumping majority by winning 43 seats out of 46 union councils. But the process of elections on special seats and Mayor of Rawalpindi delayed as the candidates belonging to opposition groups had moved the court and the case remained under trial for over 10 months. As a result the administrative rule continued in Rawalpindi headed by commissioner and DCO.
However, now according to credible sources, the vying candidates for seat of Mayor including Sardar Nasim, Arslan Hafeez and Sajjad would be filing their nomination papers on December 9 which would be followed by elections on December 22.
