LAHORE
OVER sixty thousand (60,000) families have applied for the allotment of flats under Ashiyana Housing Scheme to the LDA.
The LDA officials said the number of applications suggested that the poor-friendly step by Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shabaz Sharif for providing affordable houses to the low-income group people had been widely welcomed. They said this large scale interest, expressed by the people in this scheme, was also a manifestation of their confidence in the policies of the Punjab government. Ashiyana Housing Scheme is the largest public welfare project in the history of Pakistan as thousands of flats will be constructed for the allotment to without shelter families in the provinces under this scheme.
An ideally located chunk of 3,100 kanal of land situated in the vicinity of the Lahore Airport, DHA, Ring Road and Barki Road, has been allocated for the construction of thousand of ground plus three-storey flats under the Ashiyana Iqbal Project. The price of these flats will be recovered in easy and interest-free installments during a long period of 10 years. The Punjab government will pay the interest on behalf of the allottees to facilitate the low-income group people for becoming owners of their own flats. Moreover, the amount to be paid by allotees as monthly installment will be less than the per month rent of their houses. The Punjab government will construct a 150-feet wide road from Burki Road to the Ashiyana Iqbal Project besides constructing trunk sewer up to Charrer Drain. All utility services like electricity, water supply, sewage, carpeted roads, schools, parks, commercial area and community centre will be provided for residents of these flats which will make their life easy and comfortable.
