LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has condemned the arrest of its candidate for the vice-chairman slot of the Mianwali municipal committee, terming it a move to obtain desired results.
Talking to The News, Amjed Ali Khan, the MNA of PTI from Mianwali city alleged that local police had arrested Sohail Khan, the party candidate for Mianwali municipal committee and shifted him to an unknown location.
Against the arrest of the PTI candidate, local PTI activists led by MNA Amjed Niazi also staged a protest and held the PML-N government responsible for the arrest of its workers.
Amjed Khan Niazi, who is also the son of veteran politician the late Sher Afgan Niazi stated the PML-N defeat in the local body elections and its similar fate in the next phases had frustrated it and it was using mean tactics to rig the polls. The PTI MNA also said that through a planned strategy, the Sadr police had arrested Sohail Khan and the PML-N local leadership was also using its influence on the administration to rig the elections.
Former Governor Punjab and Central leader of Pakistan Tehreek Insaaf Chaudhry Mohammed Sarwar has said that state institutions should be independent and autonomous instead of slaves of the government.
In a statement issued on Saturday, he said only strong institutions could build a strong Pakistan. The verdict of the Supreme Court on the census is appreciable and it should be implemented without any delay. Robbery and hunger have become norms in the Punjab. Only depoliticised police can control crime, he added.
