COAS vows to consolidate gains in terror war

PESHAWAR: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said on Wednesday that successes in the war against terror would be taken forward and the war will continue till the eradication of terrorism from the country.

“We will continue to move ahead (and consolidate) the gains made so far,” he said while talking to troops during his visit to North Waziristan.A press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the army chief was briefed by local formation commander on the security situation and resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Paying tributes to the brave tribes, army, FC, Levies, and police personnel, he said terrorists would not be allowed to stage a comeback. He said that defence and security of Pakistan against external and internal threats would remain his ultimate objective.

The COAS stressed the need for expediting the pace of raising new wings of FC to ensure effective Pak-Afghan border management.He said the return of the IDPs should be completed within the stipulated time and they should be assisted in all ways to resettle respectfully. General Qamar Bajwa also inspected the reconstruction work on the ground.

Earlier, on his first visit to field formations after taking the command of Pakistan Army, General Bajwa visited the corps headquarters in Peshawar.He was received by Corps Commander, Peshawar, Lt Gen Hidayatur Rehman, who later accompanied him to North Waziristan.

At the corps headquarters, the COAS was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Fata and Malakand Division.The ISPR said the army chief was briefed about the combing operations, progress of return of IDPs and development work.
