KARACHI: PIA recorded a convincing 6-1 triumph against Railways to maintain their perfect run in the tournament and more importantly a place in the quarter-finals of 61st PSO National Hockey Championship at Sialkot Hockey Stadium in Sialkot on Tuesday.
With this triumph, PIA topped Pool C with four wins out of four matches as the qualifying round concluded on Tuesday.
Nohaiz Malik scored twice while Kashif Ali, Azfar Yaqoob, Awais-ur-Rehman and Mohammad Zubair scored one goal apiece for the PIA. Adeel Latif scored a consolatory goal for Railway.
PIA will face second place Pool D team in quarter-finals on Thursday (tomorrow) while second placed Pool C team Punjab will take on top placed Pool D team Army.
Meanwhile, the first quarter-final will be played between top Pool A team NBP and second placed Pool B team Navy Wednesday (today). On the same day, top placed Pool B team WAPDA will take on second place Pool A team HEC.
In other dead rubber matches on Tuesday, Customs defeated PQA 3-1 while PTV overpowered Police 2-1.
