The prospects of winning the war on terror look brighter now. To make the prospective victory last long there are overdue reforms that must be carried out without further loss of time. A major out-of-box revision of our foreign policy, style of governance and education among others cannot be put off for extraneous reasons.
In this context, it is strongly recommend to include Farrukh Saleem’s suggestions enumerated in the article, ‘If I were Prime Minister’ (January 4) in the National Action Plan. If the urgently needed and inordinately delayed reforms are not taken seriously the victory against terrorists will go down the drain. Our civil-military leadership must learn lessons from history in order to put our own house in order. The time to act before Pakistan is left far behind the rest of the fast-changing world is now. The government and the opposition should act more and talk less because actions speak louder than words.
