‘SMEs basic foundation of economy’

SIALKOT: Ambassador of Japan Takashi Kurai has said that small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) can be termed as the basic foundation of the industry and economy as they are the source of innovation and progress for any country.
He said this while addressing the local industrialists and exporters at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Monday. Takashi Kurai said that Sialkot was internationally famous for its unique culture of the SMEs due to which that city had become an important industrial and business hub of Pakistan and playing an important role in the economic growth of the country. He added that Japan had more than 90 per cent SMEs, which had greatly helped in the industrial and economic growth of Japan. He said that he would love to play the role of a bridge between the SMEs of Japan and Pakistan and bringing them closer to each other to boom the bilateral trade. He welcomed the local SMEs to come forward and explore new dimensions of trade with the Japan-based SMEs. Earlier, SCCI president Majid Raza Bhutta stressed for joint ventures between the business communities of Sialkot and Japan in order to promote bilateral trade and to minimise the current imbalance. SCCI VP Sh Adnan, Ejaz A Khokhar, Dr Noman Idrees Butt, Maryam Noman, Mian Naeem Javed, Ashfaq Mahey, Hamza Majeed Janjua, Farooq Meyer, Asim Shafiq, M Ibrahim and others also spoke.
Missing youth found dead

SIALKOT: The dead body of a missing youth was found from an under construction building at Mohallah Amrikpur under the limits of Sambrial police on Monday.
Muhammad Riaz, s/o Muhammad Arif, left his house along with Sohail, Chand, Shaukat and Rizwan, on November 20, but did not return. The police said that the youth was brutally tortured before murder and his body was found near an iron pipe in the under construction building. The police have taken the body in custody for post-mortem and registered a case against Sohail, Chand, Shaukat and Rizwan.
