Departments beat regions as kabaddi event begins
KARACHI: Departmental teams prevailed over regional sides as the first Chief of Air Staff (CAS) National Kabaddi Championship (circle style) commenced at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad on Monday.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) crushed Balochistan 32-10.
Railways were too tough for Sindh as the former beat the latter 44-16.
Police completed a 41-20 win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while Pakistan Air Force (PIA) defeated Punjab 65-25.
Vice Chief of Air Staff Air Vice Marshal Ahmer Shahzad graced the opening ceremony.
In the event 12 teams from across the country are showing their worth. They have been bracketed in four groups.
Group A has PAF, Punjab and Islamabad. Group B features WAPDA, Railways and Sindh. Army, Police and KP are in Group C. Higher Education Commission (HEC), SNGPL and Balochistan form Group D.
Two teams from each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals which will be played on December 1.
The semi-finals will be conducted on December 2, followed by the final on December 3.
On Tuesday (today) HEC face Balochistan, WAPDA meet Sindh, Army lock horns with KP, while Islamabad take on Punjab.
