MULTAN: The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association has urged the government to purchase 1 million cotton bales through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP).
Talking to newsmen here on Monday, PCGA vice-chairman Rao Sadruddin said that more than 2 million cotton bales were lying unsold in their stock. He said that the TCP should review its purchasing plan according to a commitment to the ginners. He warned that payment of billions of rupees to the farmers would be not possible if the TCP did not purchase cotton bales from them.
Meanwhile, the PCGA statistics shows 51 per cent increase in cotton production in Faisalabad district, 42.97 per cent in Mianwali district, 39.64 per cent in Layyah district, 38.68 per cent in Toba Tek Singh district, 37.57 per cent in Rajanpur district, 37.25 per cent in Jhang district, 21.09 per cent in Kasur district, 20.38 per cent in Bahawalpur district, 20.14 in Muzaffargarh district, 22.15 per cent in Dadu, 13.68 per cent in Sukkur and 10.14 per cent in Mirpur Khas while it shows 26.92 per cent decrease in Sargodha, 9.3 per cent in Vehari and 11.92 per cent in Hyderabad.
