Gilgit-Baltistan Mela opened at Lok Virsa

A two-day Gilgit-Baltistan Mela started here at the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage in connection with Gilgit-Baltistan Independence Day from Dogra regime.
The two-day Gilgit-Baltistan Mela will continue with all its festivities at Lok Virsa complex Shakarparian till November 27. The festival timings are 11 a.m. till 5 p.m.
Gilgit-Baltistan liberated from Dogra rule and declared its independence on November 1, 1947. Lok Virsa Executive Director Dr. Fouzia Saeed said that this day reminds us about the great efforts of our leaders and martyrs who played an important role for the independence of Gilgit-Baltistan against Dogra Raj.
Folk artists and musicians attired in traditional costumes will perform during two day ‘mela’ giving a true reflection of the diverse culture and musical heritage of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Historically Gilgit-Baltistan has been at the crossroads of various civilisations for centuries.
It has a unique location and serves as a confluence for some of the world s highest mountain ranges the Pamirs the Karakoram and the Hindukush.
