KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) was re-inducted as a unit with all rights whereas FATA was given associate membership by Pakistan Tennis Federation’s (PTF) general council on Monday.
The meeting was held at PTF Complex in Islamabad. President PTF Salim Saifullah announced on the occasion that the federation intended to host three ITF Future World Ranking Professional tournaments this year.
He added the federation would try to take permission from ITF to hold one of the events in May.
PTF secretary Khalid Rehmani said the federation would introduce ITF coaches education programme and a development programme for juniors for the first time in Pakistan.
He added that such programmes had been run in India, Sri Lanka, Iran and Thailand for a long time, which had produced good results. The PTF council also decided to start a process to identify and register all clubs and players of the country to be able to design future tennis activities.
The council was informed that Pakistan would take part in various international team championships in the coming four months, which include Junior Davis Cup, Junior Fed Cup, WBT Under-14, Fed Cup, and Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group 2 tie against Kuwait.
Punjab Lawn Tennis Association (PLTA) confirmed holding three national tournaments and a month-long coaching camp at PLTA Coaching Centre, Lahore, in the coming months.
The general council chose for the positions of senior vice presidents Iftikhar Rao, Saeed Ahmed, Khawar Hyat Khan, Inamullah Khan, Tariq Murtaza, Tariq Mumshad Bodla, Mumtaz Yousuf, Asif Dar, and Majid Bashir; for the positions of vice presidents Justice (R) Ejaz Yousuf, Mian Munir Ahmed, Muhammad Tahir, Gulzar Firoz and Shah Jehan Khan Shinwari; the positions of joint secretaries were given to Shabbir Gul, Ahmed Ejaz, S Azeem Shah, Umer Ayaz Khali and Irshad Durrani.
PTF also formed various sub committees to effectively run PTF affairs during the tenure of the current body.
