The media has made us aware of what’s happening around the world all the time but it is also the cause of desensitisation – reduced responsiveness to actual violence. That is caused by exposure to violence in the media. It has become a daily affair now to hear reports of violence in different parts of the world. It doesn’t affect us the way it used to be. How we report and discuss such incidents on the media matters.
Violence on the media needs to be limited as much as possible to provide our children with an environment in which they thrive and grow into responsible adults. Waiting for the media to evolve its own ethics isn’t a viable option anymore as the general indifference to acts of violence is becoming too widespread.
