‘Extraordinary steps in extraordinary circumstances’ is the cry of our political leadership in the aftermath of the Peshawar tragedy. But one asks: What is extraordinary about the situation prevailing in the country? Maintaining law and order is not an extraordinary situation, rather it is the duty of the government in power.
Is it that the laws already prevalent are not enough to face the situation? The fact is that they are. What is needed is a desire and more importantly, courage and determination, which have been lacking all along. Apparently, there is no action – there is only talk, talk and talk.
