The provincial law officer on Wednesday informed the Sindh High Court that Kunwar Khalid Younus, a member of the Rabita Committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Altaf, has been released by provincial authorities after completion of his detention under the maintenance of public order law.

The court was hearing a petition against the detention of the former MNA filed by his wife.

The petitioner, Naz Kunwar Khalid, submitted that her spouse, a member of the new Rabita Committee constituted by MQM founder Altaf Hussain, was allegedly picked up by personnel of law enforcement agencies from outside the Karachi Press Club on October 22 and later detained under the provisions of MPO.

She submitted that Kunwar was facing various ailments and required medical treatment in a hospital.

The additional advocate general informed the court that the detainee had been released after the expiry of his detention order under maintenance of public order.

The court, after the statement of the AAG, adjourned the hearing due to non-appearance of the petitioner’s counsel.
