YDA again warns of protest
LAHORE
The Young Doctors Association warned the Punjab government that they would go on strike and hold protest on roads all over the province from 29th of November if their demands were not fulfilled.
The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab announced ceasing operation in Mayo Hospital with immediate effect after suspending the activities of Mayo Hospital chapter for violating the YDA's constitution and decisions of the general council in this regard.
"The YDA general council, in its meeting held the other day, has taken the decision to look into the matters in Mayo Hospital directly from now onward until the decision on the fate of local chapter," said Dr Maroof Vains, newly-elected President of YDA, Punjab, Dr Altamash Kharal, General Secretary, Dr Arshad Mahmood, Dr Atif Majeed and others while speaking at a press conference held here at Doctors' Hostel of Services Hospital on Monday.
They urged the government to make Central Induction Policy by formulating the merit on the basis of marks obtained in FCPS Part-I, conducted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP), by following the practice of admissions in MS/MD courses and MBBS/BDS classes on the basis of entrance tests.
They said the general council had discussed the issues related to Mayo Hospital, rights of doctors and patients, security in hospitals, incomplete health projects, recruitment of Medical Officers (MOs) by PPSC 2013, Central Induction Policy, and regularisation of doctors recruited on contract basis and biometric system in the hospital.
They demanded the government to fulfill promises of provision of free medicines and diagnostic facilities to the patients. They showed their concern that two and three patients were lying on one bed in Gynecology, Surgery and other departments in all hospitals of Punjab and demanded to increase the facilities to cater to the increasing load of patients.
They demanded the government to fulfill the shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedics in hospitals. "The incomplete projects in health sector, including Surgical Tower in Mayo Hospital, Radiological Tower in Services Hospital, Fatima Jinnah Institute of Dental Sciences in Jubilee Town, Burn Centre in Faisalabad and many other projects should be completed within short span of time," they demanded.
The YDA warned the provincial government that they would go on strike and hold protest on roads all over Punjab from November 29 if their demands were not fulfilled.
