KARACHI: Pakistan’s Dar Academy overwhelmed Malaysia’s Anderson School 7-3 in their tour match at the Azlan Shah hockey stadium in Ipoh on Monday.
Anderson School have been the biggest nursery of hockey players in the Perak state of Malaysia. A number of players from the school have represented the national team.
Anderson School’s team for this match also featured those players who are part of the Malaysian under-18 squad. Hence, a good match was expected.
The score line suggests a runaway victory for Dar Academy, but before the start of the last quarter of the 60-minute game, they were only leading by 4-3.
They had twice went ahead in the first half through beautiful field goals by Owais and Wasim Akram. But the Malaysians twice equalised through penalty corners. Though the visiting side showed more class, they made terrible defensive errors which cost them.
In the third quarter, Dar Academy geared up and scored two more goals to make it 4-2.
The last quarter saw them in complete control of the match. Despite wasting a number of sitters, they managed to add three more goals. The seventh was their only PC conversion of the evening out of the six set-pieces earned. Waseem and Owais both scored a hat-trick.
Jaswinder Singh, Matali and Ahmed Nazmi scored one goal each for Anderson School.
