PESHAWAR: A number of politicians including the Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali Khan and federal Minister for SAFRON Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch attended the Qul of Haji Mohammad Adeel here Sunday.
Former Senator and ANP Senior Vice-President Haji Adeel passed away on Friday at the age of 72. He died from complications arising from diabetes that led to kidney failure.
People from all walks of life thronged Haji Adeel’s residence on the Gunner Lane in Peshawar Cantonment to offer condolences to his family. The deceased’s son Mohammad Adnan Jaleel received the visitors.
Asfandyar Wali, who didn’t attend Haji Adeel’s Nimaz-i-Janaza held at the Jinnah Park Peshawar, led the ANP leaders and activists who attended the Qul. He also spoke to members of the media.
In his comments, Asfandyar Wali came down hard on the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan for his politics of agitation and wondered as to why he was in a hurry to become the prime minister. “Imran Khan is pointing at others’ offshore companies, but he too is the owner of an offshore company. His party leader Jehangir Tareen is also owner of an offshore company,” he stressed. “I still don’t know as to what is an offshore company,” he added.
Lt Gen (R) Abdul Qadir Baloch was asked about the Fata Reforms as he was part of the Fata Reforms Committee. He said the 10-year timeline for merging Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was proposed because there was a big gap in the level of development between the two and Fata would take time to catch up Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He felt the three percent share proposed for Fata in the NFC award would make available about Rs100 crores for use in the tribal areas. The federal minister said local government elections would be held in Fata by the end of 2017.
