Call to adopt safety measures to overcome food hazards

FAISALABAD: Speakers at a workshop called for creating awareness and adopting food safety measures to overcome the food hazards and ensuring safe health for the public.

It was urged in a two-day training workshop on culinary arts and formal serving techniques held at the Institute of Home Sciences, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, here on Sunday. The participants gave information regarding food hazards, physical and chemical hazards, sanitation techniques, safety measures and personal hygiene. Dean Faculty of Food, Nutrition and Food Sciences Prof Dr Masood Sadiq Butt while distributing certificates said that if we ensure the healthy food and lifestyle, the issue of increasing ailment and malnutrition could be addressed effectively. He said that establishment of the Punjab Food Authority was a hallmark step, which was bringing tangible results regarding providing safe and hygienic food for the people. Institute of Home Sciences Director Dr Farah Riaz said that unhygienic food causes ailments and adding the people to the hospitals. She said that safety measures must be adopted in the preparation of food. She said that there was a dire need to train the cooks in line with the modern food serving and handling techniques. She said that lack of sanitation provokes many diseases. Workshop coordinator Hira Iftikhar stressed upon the need to keeping methods about nutritive value in view while cooking the food. She said that the workshop was aiming at equipping with hygiene, sanitation and safety in kitchens and serving etiquettes in which 22 members participated. Assistant coordinators Sana Arif and Saba Chaudhry gave lectures and demonstrated various techniques.

AUSTRALIAN SURGEONS TO CONDUCT FREE OPERATIONS: The Australian surgeons will conduct operations in a free surgery camp organised in a local hospital, said Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Engineer Muhammad Saeed Sheikh.

While inaugurating the free surgery camp, he appreciated the efforts of the social welfare organisation for offering cheapest medical facilities to the needy segments of the society and arranging free medical camps for the poor and have-nots suffering from different chronic ailments. “This was actually a noble cause and service to the humanity and affluent segments of the society must cooperate with the welfare organisation that indents to regularly arrange free medical camps. Anjum Iqbal Butt told that the management of the hospital had undertaken this task to serve the ailing humanity. He told that a apart from the cheaper treatment, the deserving elements were also getting free medical facilities from this hospital. He said that the doctors in the hospital were also committed to serve the poor.
