Murder case registered against cops after protest of deceased’s relatives

JHANG: Police allegedly tortured to death a watchman, 40, on the suspicion of his involvement in a robbery case registered with the Model Police Station Kotwali against six unidentified bandits.
According to sources, two weeks ago six robbers barged into the premises of a multinational company franchisee near police post Aliabad on Jhang-Multan Road and they tied watchman Jahangir and took away Rs 4.2 million.
The manager of the company logged an FIR against six unidentified robbers.
Investigation officer SI Yaqoob and other cops arrested the watchman and tortured him. When condition of the watchman deteriorated, they dropped him at his house at Basti Ghaziabad, where he died. The relatives of the deceased blocked he Jhang-Gojra Road demanding murder case against the cops. When their protest was highlighted by electronic media, police registered FIR No 877/16 under sections 302, 148 and 149 of PPC against SI Yaqoob and other six cops. DPO Humayn Masood said the aggrieved family would be accorded justice.
