Both families have personal relations
ISLAMABAD: The Sharif family on Tuesday submitted a letter of Prince Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jaber Al Thani of Qatar to the larger bench of the Supreme Court stating that Hussain Nawaz Sharif received four flats located in the Park Lane, London, in settlement of accounts of investment which Muhammad Sharif had made in real estate business with the Al Thani family.
The letter, bearing signatures of the Qatari prince, states that in 1980 Mian Sharif expressed his desire to invest money in the real estate business of Al Thani family in Qatar. “An aggregate sum of 12 million Dirhams (AED 12,000,000) was contributed by Mr. Mian Muhammad Sharif originated from the sale of business in Dubai, UAE,” the letter said.
In the year 2006, the accounts in relation to the above investment were settled between Mr. Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Al Thani Family who then delivered the bearer shares of the companies referred to in Para 4 to a representative of Hussain Nawaz.
According to the letter, 12 million Dirhams was originated from the sale of business in Dubai. The following is complete text of the letter.
I undersigned, do hereby solemnly state the following,
1- My father had long-standing business relations with Mian Muhammad Sharif, which were coordinated through my eldest brother. Our families enjoyed and will continue to enjoy personal relations.
2- I was informed that during the year 1980, Mr. Muhammad Sharif expressed his desire to invest a certain amount of money in real estate business of Al Thani family in Qatar.
3- I understood at that time, that an aggregate sum of 12 million Dirhams (AED 12,000,000) was contributed by Mr. Mian Muhammad Sharif originated from the sale of business in Dubai, UAE.
4- The properties, Flat#17, Flat#17a, Flat#16 and Flat#16a at Avenfield House, Park Lane, in London were registered in the ownership of two offshore companies, bearer certificates of which were kept during that time in Qatar. These were purchased from the proceeds of real estate business.
5- On account of relationship between the families, Mr. Mian Muhammad Sharif and his family used properties whilst bearing all expenses relating to the properties, including ground rent services charges.
6- I can recall that during his life time, Mr. Mian Muhammad Sharif desired that the beneficiary of his investment and returns in the real estate business is his elder grand Mr. Hussain Nawaz Sharif.
7- In the year 2006, the accounts in relation to the above investment were settled between Mr. Hussain Nawaz Sharif and Al Thani Family who then delivered the bearer shares of the companies referred in Para 4 to a representative of Mr. Hussain Nawaz Sharif.
The foregoing as far my collection of events and the available record in Doha depicts the relationship between the two families.
