UAF UC calls for use alternative ways of energy

FAISALABAD: The University of Agriculture Faisalabad took out an awareness walk on energy saving strategies as a step towards fighting energy crisis being faced by the country.
The walk arranged by the Department of Energy Systems Engineering was led by UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. It started from the Administration Block and ended at the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The participants were holding placards inscribed with slogans about saving energy.
Speaking on the occasion, the UAF vice-chancellor stressed the need to use alternative ways of energy to meet the challenges. He said that as many as 20,000mw could be produced from wind while 5,000mw could be produced from biomass. He said that the university had initiated the BS Energy System Engineering programme to produce the manpower in the field. He said that the Punjab Bioenergy Institute was set up at the campus that would help promote bioenergy in the country.
Dr Allah Bakhsh said that energy was the lifeline for the industry, business and agriculture in the country. He said that alternative ways of energy were essential to meet the energy demands, which were boosting up with each passing year. He said that the country was having a lot of potential for energy generation in terms of sunlight, wind and biomass that should be utilised for the purpose.
Dr Munir Anjum said that the country had faced shortfall of 6,000mw in the peak season.
PARC Islamabad Director General Dr Munir Ahmad, Fritz Boehmler from Germany and Irrigation Department Director Zakir Hassan also participated in the walk and inaugurated a gasification of 20kw of electricity installed in the campus.
WORKSHOP CONCLUDES: A two-day training workshop for the teaching assistance titled “digital tools for effective teaching” organised by the US-Pakistan Centre of Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, University of Agriculture Faisalabad, concluded here on Tuesday.
Chairing the concluding session, USPCAS-AFS Chief of Party Dr Bahsir Ahmad stressed the need to adopt modern teaching methods at par with the international standards. He said that in the modern era, the world had become a global village. He said that it was essential to adopt the modern technology for the teaching purpose that ultimately raised the interest of the students in studies.
Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr Muhammad Amjad said that technology improved the teaching component by giving the life to a topic. He called for learning from the developed world’s experiences in this regard. He said that a picture spoke 1,000 words.
Dr Nancy J Alien from the University of California, the US, said that tools made the teaching better. She urged the participants to learn the technology for teaching purposes that would make the teaching effective.
Dr Ghulam Murtaza, Dr Jafar Jaskani, Dr Imran Mumtaz, Dr Ahrar A Khan, Dr Sohail Sajid, Dr Hammad Tahir, Dr Muhammad Yaseen, Dr Ayesha Kiran and others also spoke.
