‘Healthy eating habits can stave off diabetes among children’
Maintaining dietary habits remains the key to avoiding or controlling the onset of diabetes. Parents should introduce healthy eating habits to their children to help them avoid an unhealthy lifestyle which mainly contributes to the spread of diabetes.
Diabetes experts expressed these views at a cooking class which was organised by a leading private hotel in Karachi on Tuesday. The session was organised in connection with World Diabetes Day 2016 to inform mothers and children on how to prepare healthy food so that they could avoid diabetes in the later stages of their lives.
World Diabetes Day 2016 was observed on Tuesday all over the world with the theme “Eyes on Diabetes”. The cooking class was conducted by Tanveer Hussain, chef de cuisine, where he taught preparing two healthy lunchbox recipes to mothers and children. The class was focused on the awareness of healthier eating habits among youngsters and to recognise important parts played by parents and caretakers in this respect.
Mirza Mansoor, the general manager of the hotel where the cooking class was held, said diabetes experts were urging parents to feed healthy food to children from the age of five because child obesity was on the rise in the world and once learnt at the earlier stages of their lives, children would continue to eat balanced and healthy diet in rest of their lives.
“This is the least we can do for our children and future generations. We are advising them to eat healthy food to remain fit and prevent diseases like diabetes that can be avoided by adopting healthy lifestyles,” Mirza maintained.
“Power Bites is a selection of our exclusive dishes for children that focuses on nutritional ingredients and healthy cooking methods presented in a surprising, fun way. The two new entries have been especially created for this new initiative by blogger mum, Fathima Mansoor,” he said.
