MANSEHRA: The police on Sunday arrested a teacher on the charges of depriving some faculty members of Hazara University of Rs280 million.
“We have arrested the accused who defrauded several teachers of the Hazara University by promising to provide them plots of land in a colony that doesn’t exist,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mansehra, Zulfiqar Khan Jadoon told reporters.
Lodging the first information report (FIR) with the City Police Station, Arshad Siddique, a professor at the Hazara University, said that Prof Fazal Akbar hailing from Mardan and Prof Khan Afsar received Rs248 million from dozens of their colleagues at the Hazara University for establishment of a professors colony on the Bypass Road in Mansehra.Arshad Siddique said that Prof Fazal Akbar and Prof Khan Afsar went into hiding after collecting money from several teachers of the Hazara University.
He added that when they contacted the Revenue Department for information, they found that no such colony existed in Mansehra.DSP Zulfiqar Jadoon said the police raided the residences of both the accused, Prof Fazal Akbar and Prof Khan Afsar and arrested the former while the latter managed to escape.
He said the accused was produced before a court that handed him over to the police on physical remand.The police lodged the FIR against the accused under sections 419/420 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and started further investigation in the case.
