The Sindh High Court has issued notices to federal and provincial law officers as well as Sindh’s police and Rangers chiefs on petitions challenging the alleged illegal detention of citizens by personnel of law enforcement agencies.

Shamim Akhtar, Huma Zehra, Majan Bibi, Raskhsnada Ali, Sartaj Alam and Rasheeda Begum submitted in their petitions that personnel of law enforcement agencies picked up Abdul Rehman, Sohail, Sajid, Adeem Sartaj and Samir Khan in raids and their whereabouts were unknown.

They said the police were neither disclosing the whereabouts of the detainees nor disclosing details of cases, if any, against them.

Sartaj Adeem said his son came to Karachi from Qatar on May 8 and since then his whereabouts had not been ascertained. The court directed the police and other law enforcement agencies to file comments on the petitions and submit a report on efforts to recover the detainees.
