Crackdowns begin on beggars

MULTAN: Police have launched a series of crackdowns on beggars in Multan, Vehari, Khanewal and Lodhran districts.
Police have registered cases against beggars.
Talking to reporters, the police focal person said RPO Sultan Azam Taimuri had ordered a crackdown on beggars on public complaints.
The focal person said the RPO directed all police officials in Police Range to locate suspects who are present at different places in the disguise of beggars.
ADIG Malik Hassan Raza Khakhi told reporters that 55 beggars were arrested from Multan, Khanewal and Lodhran, saying that most of the beggars are children, women, and elderly people.
He said beggary would be wiped out in the Multan Police Range at any cost.
He said beggars cause troubles for people in several ways.
According to police officials who are involved in the crackdown, beggars have very organized network and a large number of them had left for Karachi but they are now coming back due to target killings. They said majority of beggars now have left for Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad, adding that they are not only begging but also are involved in picking pockets in buses and markets and snatch purses from women.
