PFA set up to ensure availability of
healthy food to people: minister

GUJRANWALA: Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yasin has said that the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has been established to ensure availability of safe and healthy food to the people.
Inaugurating an office of the PFA here on Thursday, he said that the basic purpose of the authority was to lay out standards for food items, regulate their manufacturing, storage, distribution and sale. He said that providing healthy, clean and hygienic food was the need of hour. It was the right time to take action against adulteration mafia in line with the chief minister’s vision. He said: “We have succeeded to create awareness among the masses about food adulteration.” The minister said that a laboratory was also being established in Lahore, which would fulfill needs of the province.
Focal person Dr Ahsan said that 1,710 inspections had been made during the campaign against food adulteration in which 457 persons had been fined Rs 4,584,271 while 11 had been arrested.
DCO Muhammad Amir Jaan, MPAs Abdul Rauf Mughal, Muhammad Nawaz Chohan, Taufeeq Butt, Imran Khalid Butt, PFA Operations Director Dr Rafia Haider and others were also present on the occasion.
