KARACHI: The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce, Sialkot Dry port, sports goods association and dignitaries of the city will organise a ceremony in honour of the national hockey team and its management on January 6, ‘The News’ has learnt. The players are playing in the 61st National Hockey championship in Sialkot these days. Taking advantage of their presence in the city, it has been decided to give a reception in their honour for reaching the finals of the Asian Games and the Champions Trophy in 2014.
The Green-shirts won the silver medal in Champions Trophy after 18 years.
But surprisingly authorities at the ministry of IPC and PHF have failed to reward the players. In fact, they have remained deprived of their basic monthly salaries. It is expected that cash prizes will be awarded to the players during the reception, sources said.
It was also learnt that the national hockey team would arrive in Karachi on January 15 as ceremonies have been planned to honour them for their recent performance.
