‘Govt brining reforms in agri sector’

FAISALABAD: A goat milking contest was held at the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, here on Monday.
The milking contest was a part of the UAF Rabi festival. Nagri Beetal goat of Shaukat Ali from Jaranwala bagged the first position in goat milking contest with 7.99 litres milk. The Beetal goat of Ch Anwar from Faisalabad got second position with 7.91 litres milk while Nagri Beetle goat of Ch Anwarul Haq secured third position with 6.67 litres milk. Later, prize distribution ceremony was held chaired by UAF Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan. Addressing on the occasion, the VC said that the contest was organised for encouraging the farming community to increase their productivity. He said that the government was bringing reforms in the agriculture policy to address the problems of the farming community. He said that the farming community was being exploited in the hands of middlemen. He said that farmers must be paid well for their hard work, ensuring the food security in the country. He said that if we fail to provide facilities to the farming community, we would not be able to ensure the food security. He said that it was a matter of concern that the farmers did not want their sons to become farmers. He said that markets for small animals, including goats, should be established.
