A non-political organisation, Fixit, has been quite active in overcoming the garbage problem of Karachi. Volunteers have been working tirelessly to keep the city clean. However, the fact of the matter is that the city produces almost 12,000 metric tonne of garbage every month and only 3-4 tonnes of garbage are disposed off at landfill sites. Given the circumstances, the efforts of independent volunteers have a little impact on the condition of the city.
Although not effective on a large-scale, such campaigns are the face of the inability of the government to keep the city clean. It is high time the government took the responsibility of keeping the city of lights clean and green.
