‘Appoint new COAS on seniority basis’

Tehreek-e-Istaqlal Central President Rehmat Khan Wardag has advised prime minister to follow merit and appoint the senior most general as the Chief of Army Staff after the retirement of General Raheel Sharif.

In a statement issued here on Monday, Rehmat Khan Wardag said the tradition of superseding anyone should come to an end now and stated that Pakistan Army was combating terrorism and playing an important role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project. Under the current situation, Wardag said it was vital that the appointment of new Army Chief should be made on merit.

Lauding the COAS General Raheel Sharif, the Tehreek-e-Istaqlal president stated that he was a professional soldier and under him, the Army had proved that it could counter any challenge.

He said the entire nation was willing for the extension of General Raheel Sharif but while announcing not to receive extension, he had put an end to this debate.
