Police ordered to act against encroachments, illegal number plates

Inspector General Police Punjab, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has directed the officers concerned to take action against encroachments, unauthorised number plates, applied for vehicles and motorcycles and launch an operation against professional beggars roaming on roads and traffic signals, with collaboration of Excise, LDA, and City District Government departments. 

Along with use of force, support of public representatives and notables of the area should also be utilised in operation against encroachments, especially in areas of Shahdara, Thokar Niaz Baig and Kahna, he added.

The IGP directed City Traffic Officer Lahore to utilise as much as required Punjab constabulary force but should leave no stone unturned to get rid of the encroachments and professional beggary. He proposed to set up a special squad dedicated to encroachment removal. The working mechanism of the squad should prevent the establishment of encroachments and illegal stalls in markets, bazaars, crossroads and roads by starting action early in the morning, so that smooth flow of the traffic should be ensured. 

Directing DIG traffic headquarters, Punjab, DIG Operations, Lahore and City Traffic Officer, Lahore, IGP said the trend of bike riding without wearing a helmet should be discouraged throughout the Punjab. He proposed to launch public awareness campaigns in this regard and coordinate with motorcycle manufacturing companies to provide helmets to customers on discount price or by including price of helmet with the price of bike, because usage of helmet can minimise the risk of life.

Directing DIG Operations Lahore, the IGP said, Dolphin Force patrolling in peak crime time in areas most affected by crimes should be ensured to minimise the crime rate. He directed to improve monitoring of patrolling of Dolphin Force and Police Response Unit (PRU). He said, regular maintenance and inspection of Police Response Unit’s (PRU) vehicles and Dolphin Force’s bikes be ensured. Mobil oil and filters of these vehicles and bikes should be changed in-time with utmost care. An officer of the rank of the DSP should supervise the regular inspection after every 15 days and strict department action should be taken against official using vehicles and bikes carelessly.   

The IGP stated this while presiding a meeting held at Central Police Office on Monday. Additional IGP Welfare and Finance, Sohail Khan, Additional IGP Establishment Punjab, Dr Arif Mushtaq, DIG Establishment-I, Azhar Hameed Khokhar, DIG IT, Shahid Hanif, DIG Operations Lahore, Dr Haider Ashraf, DIG Headquarters Punjab, BA Nasir, DIG Traffic, Farooq Mazhar, DIG Establishment-II, Salman Chaudhry, DIG Welfare Punjab, Waseem Sial and other senior officers of CPO were also present in the meeting. 

IGP directed Additional IGP Establishment, DIG Traffic Punjab and CTO Lahore to prepare promotion cases of traffic wardens and call department promotion committee meetings as early as possible to ensure the completion of promotion process within two weeks time. He said delay in promotion cases of police officials would not be tolerated and letters of displeasure would be issued to the districts which would not complete promotion process through department promotion boards or promotion committee meetings in time. 

To tighten the security of Central Police Office, Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera directed AIG Administration that security arrangements should be improved and DSP security should personally check security arrangements and ensure briefing to the security officials regarding their duty on daily basis. Duty hours should not be more than nine hours and it should be scheduled in three hours duty and three hours rest break down.

DISMISSED: CTO Tayyab Cheema has dismissed three officials of City Traffic Police from service over long absence and negligence in duties. Cheema said negligence in duties would not be tolerated. He issued these orders while hearing the appeals of traffic wardens and constables in Orderly room. The dismissed officials included constable Naveed and wardens Shahbaz and Riasat.

The cops had failed to give reason to their negligence and absence over which they were dismissed from service.

ACCIDENTS: At least 685 road traffic accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which 17 lives were lost and serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts. However, some 202 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.
