LAHORE

The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday dismissed a writ petition seeking disqualification of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for his alleged failure to establish law and order and tranquility in the province.

Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah observed that the petition was not maintainable before the court. The chief justice said the relief sought by the petitioner fell within the domain of the Election Commission of Pakistan. A citizen, Azhar Abbas, had filed the petition and contended that the chief minister had failed to maintain law and order and created unrest in the province. He also accused IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera of being involved in harming peace in the province at the behest of the chief minister.
