Youth axed to death

BAHAWALPUR: A youth was axed to death over enmity at Basti Ghausabad on Sunday.
Imam Bakhsh was on his way when accused Muhammad Akram intercepted him and allegedly axed him to death. The dead body has been shifted to the RHC Khan Bela for post-mortem.

LHC CJ for disposal of cases in six months

BAHAWALPUR: Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court has said that the LHC’s 150-year celebrations are aimed to make people know about glorious judicial traditions and administer fair and speedy justice.
He made these remarks while inaugurating sesquicentennial celebrations of the LHC at Noor Mahal here on Saturday night. He maintained that the Lahore High Court was the custodian of great and glorious judicial values and traditions to ensure the supremacy of law and to protect the fundamental rights of the citizens. He emphasised the need to adhere to the highest standard of professionalism to ensure the disposal of cases in six months, which would bring solace to the people in a short span of time, instead of waiting for generations to get justice. He said: “Right from 1866 starting as a Chief Court, the Lahore High Court has gone through a long journey and has completed 150 years glorious march towards the supremacy of law, which is vital to establish a stable, prosperous and just polity.”
Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah said that the prime function of the courts was to mobilise all available resources with dedication and commitment to sharpen the pace of administering justice to the people, which would end their miseries and it would further enhance the grace and glory of the judicial organ of the state.
He said that effective, constructive and dedicated role of all stakeholders, including judiciary, bar, and civil administration, was vital and, therefore, effective coordination among them was of paramount importance. He appreciated the Lahore High Court Bar for its constructive role in administering justice to the people.
LHC Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah ordered reconstruction of Lahore High Court Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association building in the next 15 days. He also appointed Senior Justice Shahid Hameed Dar as the chairman of the committee to supervise the construction work. He further ordered that all development work of the Lahore High Court would remain suspended till completion of the project, which was vital to protect lives of the members of the Lahore High Court Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association.
The ceremony was attended by Justice Shahid Hameed Dar, Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, Justice Kazim Raza Shamsi, Justice Khalid Mahmood Malik, Justice Ameenuddin Khan, Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar, Justice Masood Abid Naqvi, Justice Shahid Mubeen, Justice Ali Baqir Najfi, former CJ Mian Allah Nawaz, Justice (retd) Muhammad Farrukh Mahmood, Justice (retd) Sheikh Hakim Ali, Justice (retd) Riazuddin Khan, DCO Dr Ahtesham Anwar Mehr, DPO Ashfaq Ahmad Khan, Lahore High Court Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association president Nawazish Ali Pirzada, District Bar Association president Tayyab Zameer Khan and others.
