The Sindh governor has assented to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (Sindh Administration) Act, 2014.
The law empowers a governing body to run the administrative affairs of the hospital. The body will comprise the chief minister as its chairman and the health minister as its vice chairman.
The other members will be the health secretary; the finance secretary, the executive director who will be appointed by the government, a nominee of the Sindh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, a nominee of the accountant general Sindh, the elected mayor of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and two MPAs nominated by the provincial assembly speaker.
The executive director will also act as the secretary and chief executive officer of the institute.
The provisions of the Sindh Industrial Relations Act, 2013 will not apply to the institute or any of its officers and other employees.
Dr Ishratul Ebad also signed the charters for the constitution of Altaf Hussain universities in Karachi and Hyderabad and for the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University in Shaheed Benazirabad (Nawabshah).
Bahria Town founder and owner Malik Riaz Hussain will fund the setting up of
these three private sector universities.
On December 9, the Sindh Assembly had unanimously passed into law three private bills for this purpose.
