The federal government is violating the constitution and consequently causing load shedding of gas and electricity, said Sindh minister for local bodies and archives Sharjeel Inam Memon on Friday.
Talking to the media at his office, he said gas and electricity cuts were a matter of grave concern and though the provincial government had reminded the Centre several times it did not seem to take any notice.
He said it was the constitutional right of every province which produced any natural resource not to be deprived of its share but the federal government kept violating the laws in this regard.
He warned that is any untoward situation pertaining to electricity shortage arose on Eid-e-Miladun Nabi then the responsibility would fall on the shoulders of the Centre.
Meanwhile, citizens have claimed that complaints regarding unabated power outages and unannounced gas load shedding go unheeded as restaurants have also begun to increase food prices due to the usage of gas cylinders.
MQM blames Sindh govt
The Sindh province has always been proud of the fact that it produces 70 percent of the natural gas consumed in the country but the shortage being faced by Karachi these days is highly condemnable. It only adds to the woes of people who are already facing acute shortages of water and electricity.
This was said by Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Mohammed Hussain while talking to the media outside the Sindh Assembly building on Friday.
He held the Sindh government responsible for the whole situation and said there was no evidence of any good governance in the province.
Hussain said all the institutions in Sindh were in deplorable condition and this was why the local government systems were at the verge of collapse. He said civic facilities were dilapidated even in Karachi which was full of heaps of garbage.
According to him, after witnessing quick removals of the heads of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, senior officials felt insecure about their jobs. If an officer is not secure about his job, said Hussain, then he will not be able to work.
