Cotton arrival shows 7.47pc increase

MULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to over 6,948,381 bales has reached ginneries till October 31, showing an increase of 7.47 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year when ginneries received 6,465,600 bales.
According to the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association fortnightly report, ginneries in the Punjab have recorded arrival of 3,922,050 bales, showing an increase of 13.84 per cent. The Sindh ginneries have recorded arrival of 3,026,331 bales while the last year Sindh had received 3,020,429 bales. The textile mills have bought 4,996,630 bales while the exporters bought 121,629 bales.
According to the PCGA report, Multan received 177,703 bales (143.46 per cent increase), Lodhran 101,520 bales (91.62 per cent increase), Khanewal 415,829 bales (36.31 per cent increase), Muzaffargarh 214,953 bales (35.96 per cent increase), Dera Ghazi Khan 195,151 bales (4.02 per cent decrease), Rajanpur 237,941 bales (14.45 per cent decrease), Layyah 168,147 bales (7.25 per cent increase), Vehari 258,405 bales (2.33 per cent increase), Sahiwal 159,188 bales (18.65 per cent decrease), Pakpattan 35,200 bales (42.98 per cent decrease), Okara 16,907 bales (18.38 per cent decrease), Toba Tek Singh 126,037 bales, Faisalabad 28,080 bales, Jhang 26,915 bales, Mianwali 149,730 bales (13.9 per cent increase), Bhakkar 51,172 bales, Sargodha 6,300 bales, Rahimyar Khan 504,962 bales, Bahawalpur 512,360 bales (27.02 per cent increase), Bahawalnagar 535,550 bales (43.37 per cent increase), Hyderabad 209,141 bales (9.78 per cent decrease), Mirpur Khas (Thar) 2,47,906 bales (5.61 per cent decrease), Sangarh 1,139,616 bales (7.61 per cent decrease), Nawabshah 287,075 bales, Naushero Feroze 253,109 bales, Jamshoro 98,182 bales, Badin 23,964 bales and Balochistan 58,291 bales.
Total 1,007 ginning factories are operational in the country, including 735 in the Punjab and 272 in Sindh. Total 1,830,149 bales are lying as unsold stock.
