QUETTA: A motorcyclist was killed when his bike hit an IED in the Lehri area of Quetta. The biker was on his way home when his motorcycle hit an improvised explosive device and he succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The IED was planted on roadside by unidentified terrorists. After the incident, the Levies officials reached the spot and shifted the body to a hospital for medico-legal formalities and started an investigation.
According to another report, law enforcement agencies Friday saved the Quetta-bound Jaffar Express train from a planned terrorist attack by timely defusing an IED which was planted on the railway track near Aab-e-Gum area in the Bolan district.
A spokesman of Frontier Corps, Balochistan, said here that unknown terrorists had planted an IED on the track near the Aab-e-Gum area between Mach and Sibbi to target the Jaffar Express coming from Rawalpindi to Quetta. After receiving intelligence information, the FC personnel and railways police rushed to the scene and defused the IED.
He further said the remote-controlled IED exploded when bomb disposal squad personnel of FC and railways police were engaged in defusing it as the terrorists hiding in mountains pushed the switch of the remote to send signals to IED for explosion. However, the BDS personnel remained unhurt as they had worn bombproof jackets, he added. He said the law-enforcement agencies have launched a search operation.
